The accelerating pace of change has affected all industries and is changing the nature of work. Shifting demographic patterns, the rapid pace of technological advancements, the shift to knowledge-based economies and increasing pressures for innovation, productivity and cost- containment is the need of the time for the organizations which is evolving in its effort to sustain the competition and market forces. India’s talent shortages are hitting the bottom line of business and are reflected in the increased attrition rate of skilled manpower and wage inflation in various business verticals. This situation is compounded by the increase in demand for skilled and semi – skilled manpower in organizations. Recognizing the industry needs and dynamics impacting the skills requirement is essential and critical, to develop models of partnerships between industry and academia.
Knowledge has no purpose in absence of implementation. Skilling refers to imparting purposeful knowledge and imbibing implementation of such knowledge to empower an individual to accomplish dynamic objectives individually or collectively. Educational institutions are accountable for producing a corporate-compatible employable resource, which necessitates the need to understand the demand of Corporate. Collectively the industry and academia need to take the action and onus of developing the young aspiring youth joining the workforce. Education and Industry have congruence in their objective i.e. to ready a competent human resource.
